Aware of the need to make any book as presentable and as engaging as possible, the need to encourage any reader to flick through the pages and give a purchase a second thought, I decided on the ploy of using 5 photographs or sketches per book to ‘break up’ the pages of print. Each photograph or sketch was pertinent to the title and/or content of the poem, and as an extra appeal factor I headed the page with a citation I had come across from well-known personalities in the arts, and rather cheekily adding a thought of my own as a footer. Hopefully, the examples to follow illustrate my approach splendidly.
MY ROCKING CHAIR
At times I brush past you
Hardly a recognition shown
Even a touch of disdain
‘Just you being there’ is objection sound …
MADDENING LIGHT
Open that bottle right now
If it makes tomorrow shorter
Bring on ten more
So Monday can be but a dream …
JUST A LITTLE BIT LONGER
Just give me one more spring
This is all I ask of you
Promise I to take all in
To cherish each tender moment …
